IN A country that is fast losing many of its finest traditions, it is good to see that at least one is alive and well - the British appetite for charity fundraising while having the maximum amount of fun.

This weekend's Children In Need events around the nation again confirmed the sheer generosity - and ingenuity - of the population.

It seemed that if any individual was not out performing some outrageous charity stunt then he was digging into his pocket to sponsor one.

It was no less the case in our region. Today we make no apology for devoting another page to pictures and stories about local madcap events to raise money for this worthy cause.

Our own Guardian Angels appeal has demonstrated the generous hearts of our readers and we are always amazed at the new, weird and wonderful ways of persuading folk to part with their money with a smile.

One event which is not new, but has given pleasure for 50 years and raised many, many thousands of pounds, is York's Community Carol Concert.

It takes place at the Barbican on December 2 - the last event before its closure and refurbishment - but already 1,000 tickets have been sold.

This golden jubilee concert will raise money for our Guardian Angels appeal and the Lord Mayor and Sheriff of York's Christmas Cheer Fund.

It's all heartwarming stuff. Keep it coming.
