NORTH Yorkshire golfer Simon Dyson got his new season off to a steady start as he tied for 15th place in the Hong Kong Open.

Dyson, who won the tournament in 2000, carded a final round 69 to finish in a five-way tie at eight under par. All five collected £14,500 in prize money.

A total of 15 pars found their way on to Dyson's card, along with birdies at the par-five third and 13th. His only blemish was a bogey on the par-three second.

On Saturday, Dyson followed his opening two rounds of 68 and 65 with a level par 70 to drop from joint third to a tie for 19th.

After birdies at the first and ninth holes, Dyson looked poised to join the leaders.

However, bogeys at eight and nine stalled his progress and a shot gained at the par-four 11th was given back on the 18th.

Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez won the title, claiming a final-hole victory over Robert Karlsson.
