SOME schoolchildren dressed in pyjamas, and some pretended to be pirates and princesses, while some pubgoers dressed in school uniforms.

Children In Need sparked a feverish bout of dressing up across York and North Yorkshire, as thousands of pounds were raised. Fluffy dressing gowns, outlandish pyjamas and animal slippers were out in force at St George's RC Primary School in York.

Head teacher Helen Glendinning, who wore her Christmas pyjamas for the day, said: "We had a Me And Ted ready for bed' day, everyone has taken part and we have raised about £150."

Children at Park Grove Primary School had a themed uniform day, with each class from the school dressing up as either superheros, cowboys, Robin Hood, pirates or classic hippies, or came in their pyjamas.

The children's choir from Stockton-On-The-Forest Primary School sang at the Coppergate Centre, decked out in their Pudsey spotted scarves. Proud mums and dads watched as they raised £307.40.

Poorly teddies and soft toys were brought in by the Infants form the Burton Green School, York. The children brought in their toys to be cured by three students from the Hull & York medical school.

Pubgoers dressed in their school uniforms for a charity do at the Knavesmire Pub, Albemarle Road, York. A Back To School disco was held, with songs from the 70s and 80s.

Pirates and princesses was the theme for the children from the Happy Jays Nursery. The children came in fancy dress and made swords and princess biscuits for the day. A member of staff was also sponsored for speaking French all day.

A life-size Mr and Mrs Pudsey Bear, from the Boots store, in Coney Street, York, collected over £300 from shoppers.
