HIGH-FLYING Heworth ARLC Under-13s extended their winning start to the season to four games with a 56-4 derby defeat of New Earswick All Blacks U13s.

The score suggests an easy win but is not a fair reflection on an All Blacks team containing several new players who showed effort to the end. However, they faced a side who have found rich form based on solid defence and an ability to attack from anywhere on the pitch.

Second-rower Dan Coulson scored a hat-trick, and Flan Naismith and Jordan Potter bagged a brace apiece. Alex Clough, Liam Jackson, William Barratt and Elliott Bulmer also crossed, as did Jack Stewart, who sidestepped several players. Goal-scorers for Heworth were Stewart and Harry Deighton.

Their third win had come at home to Criggelstone, avenging two defeats last season with a 52-0 thrashing.

Potter and Coulson both finished with hat-tricks, while other tries came from Nais-mith (2), Barrett and Bulmer.

Such was their strangle-hold, David Hayes and Liam Jackson could demonstrate skills including chip kicks and dummy passes before ghosting past defenders.

Hayes, Jackson and Deighton added goals, as did new player Josh Poulter, who worried Crigglestone with his tricky running, Ben Barker joined the fray after half-time and made many yards from acting-half.

Heworth U8s played their part in an exhilarating game at Castleford Panthers.

Many players excelled in a tough encounter. Arron McBride was man of the match, Sam Young the top tackler and Maxwell Carry the most improved, while tries came from McBride (2), Josh Rogerson (2), Jack Shore and Leon Beattie.

Toby Latham set a great example as captain, and in the previous match, against Stanley Rangers, his improved running and tackling saw him named man of the match.

Young again topped the tackle count and scored a hat-trick. Rogerson's strong running brought two tries, with Shore and McBride also getting on the scoresheet. Andrew Errington was the most improved player.

Billy Browne stole the show with two magnificent tries and the man-of-the-match award in New Earswick U8s' game against Wibsey.

The rising stars' were Ben Atkin, who scored a length-of-the-pitch try, and Ian Oakley for some excellent tackling.

The top tackler was the consistent Isaac Wilson, and the tackle of the match' award went to Harry Suter for a try-saver on the line.

Nick Surtees and George Leatt scored hat-tricks and Tom Wilson was top tackler as New Earswick U10s, with only seven players, drew 32-32 with Dewsbury Celtic.

Surtees opened the scoring, and good teamwork and off-loading saw Jamie Law power downfield to score the second. Man of the match Kallum Summerbell scampered to the whitewash, and Leatt reached through tackles to touch down his first.

Will Ireland's neat chip was pounced on by Surtees, while George Mosey, who won the outstanding effort' award, set up Leatt for his second. Surtees crossed again from another powerful run and, although a lapse in concentration saw Dewsbury go in front for the first time, another close-range try from Leatt levelled matters.

New Earswick U9s' match against Allerton Bywater was a true game of two halves.

Allerton could field only six players so the All Blacks team was split into two groups playing half a game each.

Both All Blacks teams worked hard with Mike Elders and Ben Husband topping the tackle counts, while Sam Beaumont performed the tackle of the match for his last-gasp try-saving effort.

Jacob Goodhall and newcomer George Jackson were All Blacks' men of the match, while their try-scorers were Dominic Judge (4), Kailem Browne, Ben Husband (2), Thomas Atkin (3), Ben Smith (2) Conner Calem.

After a bright opening, Heworth U12s struggled against an unbeaten Castleford Lock Lane side who won 48-2. Heworth never gave up, though, resulting in an improved second-half performance. Man of the match Danny Simpson kicked Heworth's only points.

The excellent Reece Rush-worth scored a hat-trick as an understrength York Acorn U11s did well at Thornhill.

Rushworth, Henry Andrews, Reece Arthur and, with the cover tackle of the game, Alex Hardcastle defended well.

In attack, two-try man of the match Jimmy Chadwick was outstanding, while the most improved player was Joshua Edkins-Bond. Andrews, Jarrod Sellars and Arthur also scored.
