SECOND-PLACED Rawcliffe maintained their challenge at the top of the York FA Under-19s Football League with a 2-1 derby victory over neighbours New Earswick.

Rawcliffe were on top from the start, but it took them 20 minutes to take the lead.

A poor clearance from the New Earswick 'keeper fell to Dan Zambelli 25 yards out and he cracked the ball into the top corner of the net.

Misfortune was to follow for New Earswick before half-time when Chris Purnell suffered a broken collar bone.

In the second half, it was still Rawcliffe to the fore and, from a corner on the right, Zambelli added his and Rawcliffe's second.

With five minutes of the match remaining, Scott Pallister netted for New Earswick in a breakaway, but it was too late to alter the outcome.

Dunnington drew 2-2 with Wigginton Grasshoppers but must have wondered how they didn't come away from the match with maximum points.

They were overwhelmingly the better side, but it was Grasshoppers who took the lead with their first attack when Matthew Tiplady netted.

By half-time, Dunnington had taken a 2-1 lead with two goals from Josh Tattersall from close range and then following a corner.

Dunnington continued to be in control, but a terrible defensive mix-up let in Danny Lamb for an equaliser.

There were no further goals, largely thanks to the performance of central defender and man of the match Matthew Harding.

Top of the table Fulford beat Strensall 4-0 with two goals each from Lee Stewart and Chris Baughan.

Fulford have not conceded a league goal, but on this occasion they were indebted to a great display by their 'keeper Callum Atkinson.

Huntington were 4-1 winners over Tadcaster Albion. Huntington took the lead on the half hour when outstanding central midfielder Alistair Bell volleyed in from outside the penalty area.

Luke Goldthorpe broke from defence to net Huntington's second before half-time.

Early in the second half, Arron Rose got number three from an acute angle out on the right.

Joe Baker pulled one back for Tadcaster following a defensive mix-up ten minutes from time, but Goldthorpe steadied Huntington's nerves as he netted to make it 4-1.

Poppleton beat Heworth 2-1 with goals from Matthew Ollman and Robert Forester.

A late goal by a determined Heworth had Poppleton hanging on for their victory.
