YORK Schoolboys Under-12s kept up their promising start to the season by beating a strong Leeds side 2-1 in West Yorkshire.

The first half was dominated by York with their quick and accurate passing to the fore, while a mean defence limited Leeds to very few shots on target, leaving 'keeper Josh Archer little to do.

York created numerous chances but failed to find the net and then, against the run of play, Leeds' first shot on target put them ahead at the break.

The visitors increased the tempo in the second half and the resulting pressure saw a headed goal from James Hudson, after Alex Horsman's cross, to level the scores.

Both sides continued to attack but, with the game looking like it was heading for a draw, York attacked down the left-hand side and James Barkway crossed for Dan Gallagher to drive the ball home from six yards.

Meanwhile, York's U13s started their season with a good performance, even though they went down 5-3 to Leeds.

York started well, playing a superb passing game from the back.

With just seven minutes gone, Ash Taylor linked up with Jordan Calpin, who found the forward run of Tom Rae.

Rae weaved past two defenders and slipped a perfect through ball to debutant Simon Wilson, who found the Leeds net.

But the celebrations were short-lived as Leeds produced a counter-attack and levelled the scores within a minute.

York played some beautiful football, chiefly through Josh Winn and Elliott Frodsham, but in the 13th minute Leeds lobbed a high ball over goalkeeper James Hall, who was stranded off his line.

Leeds took their 2-1 lead into the half-time break.

The second half was played at a fast pace, and Leeds cranked up the pressure on Josh Poulter and man of the match debutant Guy Starkey.

They snatched another goal to make it 3-1.

York responded again as Starkey produced a lovely ball through to Lewis Rhodes, who reduced the arrears.

Leeds took advantage of a quiet spell from York to fire a quick brace of goals.

Jack Ryder rallied his players and they pulled another goal back when Simon Wilson placed a free-kick into the top corner from the edge of the box.

The U13s are next in action against Darlington on Saturday, October 20.
