IT Sports Wigginton returned to winning ways in the Yorkshire Premier Squash League with a convincing win over Harrogate.

Wigginton, national and county champions, are looking to recapture the form which saw them dominate in the league last year.

The York side have a 100 per cent winning record at home stretching back to last season, and they showed no signs of losing their record as they eased past a young Harrogate side 4-1.

The win keeps Wigginton close to the top of the table and will give them confidence going into a difficult fixture away to Queens Halifax next week.

Andy Whipp got Wigginton off to a flying start playing at number one, defeating Harrogate's Michael Pearson 3-1, before Wigginton's Pete Bilson beat Adam Nowakowski 3-0.

Neil Cordell then got the better of Harrogate's England international and world top ten star Jenny Duncalf 3-0 to seal the victory for Wigginton.

The best match of the night saw Wigginton's Mat Lowery grind down his talented young opponent Andrew Widdison.

Lowery was put on the back foot from the start and was caught napping to lose the first game 11-6. But he fought back to power past the youngster to take the secondnd game 11-2.

In a heated third game, Widdison was unable to match Lowery's superior fitness and experience, losing 11-10. Lowery then wrapped up a 3-1 victory.

The final game on court saw Jonny Duffield return to the Wigginton side after a year's absence to replace Ian Tooms, who pulled out through injury.

Duffield took an early 2-0 lead against his Yorkshire junior opponent Nick Jezeph.

However, Jezeph won the next two games and then won the deciding set.

Wigginton travel to Queens Halifax on Wednesday.
