THE winner of the first ever Best of Yorkshire Pie Competition, held at a long-running agricultural themed event near York, has been presented with his trophy.
The competition at the 73rd Tockwith Show saw pie-makers combine regional flavours in a bid to achieve the perfect Yorkshire pie.
Kevin Wilson, of Appleton’s Butchers, which has a shop in Lendal in York, was crowned the winner after impressing the judges with his pork pie topped with mushy peas – and he has already put the recipe into production and on sale in his four shops.
Show vice-chairman Allan Robinson, who presented the trophy to Mr Wilson, said: “I came up with the idea of a Yorkshire pie competition for this year because it’s such an iconic symbol of our region.”
Competition was judged by author Jilly Cliff and Jonathan Cowap.
