THE SWING bridge in Whitby will be closed to vehicles during this weekend’s annual regatta.

The bridge will be closed from 10.30am-7pm on Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12.

Diversions will be in place for an alternative route between the east and west sides of the town.

Cllr Don Mackenzie, executive member for highways, said: “The safety of pedestrians and road users is our first concern and it is expected that during the regatta pedestrian numbers will escalate to a point where it isn’t safe for people and vehicles to use the bridge together safely.”

The closure will not affect the use of the bridge by boats.
