A NEWLY-married couple are appealing to the people of York after a pair of wedding rings were lost in the city.

Kris and Vicky Corbley, from Oldham, were married on Friday, and are spending a short break in York this week with their two children Noah, two, and eight-week-old Isabella.

But while out in the city on Tuesday lunchtime, they went into Browns to use the baby changing facilities and Vicky took off her rings to change Isabella's nappy while Kris changed Noah.

Kris, 35, said: "Vicky took her two rings off to change Isabella as it was a bad nappy. I was changing Noah at the same time, and it was a bit chaotic.

"About ten minutes later, Vicky looked at her hand and realised she'd put the rings down and not picked them up so we dashed back and checked the room and notified staff. they said the shop was busy, but nobody had handed them in. All the staff were made aware, but noone came forward. We even tipped out the bins with a member of staff just in case and checked behind the fixtures and fittings to see if they'd fallen behind there."

Kris, who is a Special Sergeant with Greater Manchester Police, reported the loss to North Yorkshire Police, and the couple have visited jewellery shops around the city asking whether anyone has been offered the rings for sale, but have so far had no luck.

He said: "The rings are valued at £750, but obviously the sentimental value is much bigger to us. Vicky is gutted and beating herself up a bit. We're still in York at the moment but feel like going home already.

"People at the jewellers shops have taken pictures and are being vigilant about it and have been really helpful, so we're quite hopeful about that, but we just want to appeal to peoples' best nature. It might be that someone's picked them up with the intention of handing them in to police, we can only hope."
