YORKSHIRE and the Humber has seen the largest regional quarterly fall in unemployment in the country - with the rate down by 19,000 to 122,000.
The regional rate has more than halved since 2010, according to official figures released by the Office for National Statistics.
Nationwide, the employment rate is at a new record high of 75.7 per cent, while the unemployment rate is the lowest since 1975, at 4.2 per cent.
Jenny Shaw, employer and partnership manager at York and Ryedale Jobcentres, said the York job market was 'very buoyant', with vacancies at employers including B&M Stores, the Grand Hotel, the Marriott hotel and Carluccios.
She said that in Ryedale, Home Sweet Home Care were interviewing today at Ryedale Jobcentre for home carers, with various part time & full time vacancies available.
"We are supporting Flamingo Land with their seasonal recruitment," she said. "Interviews will be held at Malton Jobcentre on Thursday July 26.'
She added that One Stop in Norton were recruiting for customer service assistants.
