NEW SECURE cycle parking facilities have recently been installed at Malton train station.

It is hoped the new bike racks will encourage customers to cycle to the station rather than drive, thus reducing road congestion in the Malton and Norton area.

The 48-space shelter, located on the main platform, has been designed to offer cycle parking in a secure area, covered by CCTV, and has step-free access.

The new shelter has been installed by TransPennine Express in a partnership with North Yorkshire County Council and Ryedale District Council.

Cllr Luke Ives, chair of the policy and resources committee for Ryedale District Council, said: "These station improvements are part of a much bigger new investment in rail services linking Ryedale to York, Leeds and Scarborough.

"Improved and more frequent services help to connect our businesses and residents. Making it easier for people to access these services, with improved facilities at Malton station, is a vital part of this."
