MORE than a third of rooms have already been reserved in a new block of luxury student flats - which boasts its own cinema and gym.

Construction work has not yet finished on the student accommodation block on Percy’s Lane.

But more than 35 of the 106 bedrooms have already been reserved for the next academic year, with the price of renting a room starting at £155 a week.

The ‘premier studio’ rooms, which cost £187 a week, have already sold out.

For their money, students also get high speed wifi, a subscription to rewards scheme Perkbox, a games room and courtyard area as well as access to the on-site gym and cinema.

Ann Scott, from developer S Harrison, said: “This development will give students at both the University of York and York St John University a superb place to live in purpose-built accommodation.

“Its location at the heart of York’s Walmgate Conservation area, just a five-minute walk away from Parliament Street and the city centre’s main retail and leisure core, means it’s already proving to be extremely popular.

“There’s also an exceptional range of communal facilities on offer and the show apartment offers a genuine feel for the quality fixtures, fittings and furnishings that are a key feature of the scheme.”

The scheme is due to be completed by September and will feature a number of self-contained townhouses with their own front doors, which developers say will be similar to a traditional shared student house “but with all the comforts modern students expect”.

There is also a mix of one, three, five and six-bedroom en-suit apartments available.

The new scheme is being built on the unit formerly occupied by electrical repair and retail shop Herbert Todd & Son, which moved to a new premises at Monks Cross last year.

The accommodation will be managed by Hello Student.
