HUNDREDS of people have already visited the York Vegan Festival in the city centre today.

The festival, the first in the city set up by Shena Steer, is taking place at Central Methodist Church in St Saviourgate until 4pm today.

Shena is raising funds for her animal sanctuary Pudz, in South Killingholme, and other animal sanctuaries - who have representatives on site - and said the event was an opportunity for people to find out more about Veganism.

She said: "It's my first time doing one in York.

"We've got a big range of stalls going on today, some hot food, and we've also got some talks going on in the main chapel so people can come and listen if they're interested in becoming vegan or learning more about it."

Free samples are available at many of the stalls, and live music will also take place throughout the day.
