LOCAL performers are pulling together to raise funds for a York nature reserve.

St Nicks' summer concert will take place on June 30 at St Saviourgate Unitarian Chapel, the oldest surviving nonconformist chapel in the city.

As well as raising money, the concert will also celebrate St Nicks' 20th anniversary as a charity.

Concert-goers will be treated to classical works by Grieg and Piazzolla, performed by pianist David Hammond, who will also accompany local cellist Sarah Sigsworth, a member of York Guildhall Orchestra, playing pieces by Cassadó and Rachmaninov.

York-based community choir, the Stonegate Singers, will premiere David Hammond's musical arrangement of local poet Brinley Price's Haiku for St Nicks, which was written specially for the environment centre.

Price, who takes part in St Nicks' ecotherapy programme, which promotes mental and physical wellbeing through outdoor activity, will also read some of his own nature-inspired poetry.

Proceedings start from 7:30pm. Entry is by a pay-as-you-feel donation.
