I refer to your recent article “700 lose disability benefits” (The Press, May 29).
Although I am not one of the 700 you mention, as I live in the Ryedale area, even after appeal I also lost all of my Disability Living Allowance, which I was awarded indefinitely several years ago.
The statement I received after my appeal did not recognise my condition and problems at all.
I found the system very brutal and uncaring. I was left feeling more stressed, anxious and depressed than ever.
I strongly disagree with the paragraph by the Tory MP stating: “PIP is designed to ensure mental health conditions are given the same recognition as physical ones, which wasn’t the case under DLA.”
I certainly haven’t found this to be true, and wonder if your readers who agree with me could inform the appropriate MPs?
