THESE beautiful images of York are set to be used in a marketing campaign to promote the city to tourists after winning a photography competition.

The three photographs, by Trudi Forrest, Thomas Bradbury and Chris Kendall, came first, second and third respectively in the #onlyinyork contest held at the Mansion House.

The competition was organised by Jessica Elliott, who is studying for an MA in cultural and creative industries management at Northumbria University.

She said she went on a work placement at the Mansion House, base for York’s Lord Mayor, and had the idea of holding the contest for amateur photographers.

She said the entries were judged by a panel of experts including Frank Dwyer, chief photographer at The Press and Mark Adams, a senior lecturer in photography at York St John University, and the prizes were presented to the winners in a ceremony at the Mansion House, where the top 15 shortlisted photographs had been put on display.

A spokeswoman for the tourism organisation Visit York said the photographs would be used as part of its campaign for this year, dubbed #onlyinyork, which aimed to focus on aspects of the city which were unique to York.
