A SECOND MP has intervened over telephone problems at a York GP surgery which have left patients trying in vain to ring to make appointments.

York Outer MP Julian Sturdy says he has written to the managing partner of Unity Health’s Kimberlow Hill practice in Heslington, and also to the Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

He said: “In my letter, I have stressed to the managing partner how concerning it is for residents to feel they are unable to access GP services, and have requested a clear explanation of how and when this situation will be resolved, and a fully functioning booking system.”

The MP told The Press he had asked the CCG what it could do to resolve the situation and said he would appreciate being informed about any actions it might propose at a City of York Council health scrutiny committee meeting on June 20.

“I hope to get some answers soon, and will of course keep an eye on this to make sure a proper service is restored for my constituents,” he added.

His comments come after York Central MP Rachael Maskell said on Wednesday, June 6, she planned to ask the Care Quality Commission watchdog to intervene.

The Press revealed last month that patients were left hanging on the line for hours while trying to ring the medical centre, with some eventually having to travel there to make an appointment face-to-face.

The centre has previously said it was doing all it could, along with the CCG and also BT, to try to resolve the problems.
