A CEREMONY dating back to the 15th century will be staged in York on Sunday as the city's Guilds and Companies begin preparing in earnest to stage the York Mystery Plays.
The 'Presentation of the Billets' by the Lord Mayor, Cllr Keith Orrell, will order them to ‘bring forth’ this year’s plays on pageant wagons at various locations across the city centre on two consecutive Sundays - September 9 and 16 - and on the evening of September 12 in Shambles Market.
Sunday's ceremony at the Merchant Adventurers Hall in Fossgate will follow a Guild service and then a parade through the city centre to the hall.
