ROMAN soldiers marched through York city centre as part of an annual festival.
The Eboracum Roman Festival, which took place from Friday to Sunday, saw six Roman legions and civilians dressed in period costume line up in the Museum Gardens for troops to be inspected by Garrison Sergeant Major Brian Kiernan.
The weather did not dampen anyone's spirits as spectators lined the streets to see the soldiers march through Lendal, St Helen's Square, Davygate, Church Street, Petergate, Deangate, Duncombe Place and Blake Street.
The festival included fighting displays and a living history camp where visitors could find out more about everyday life in Roman England.
And tour guides showed guests around the city's ancient archaeological sites, as well as the haunted cellar at the Treasurer's House, where Harry Martindale reportedly saw the ghosts of Roman soldiers in 1953.
