Regarding Mr Rickaby’s recent letter ‘It’s time to abolish the House of Lords’, never has a truer word been written.

The upper chamber is a bottomless money pit funded by us the taxpayers. It now must be time for the Lords to be abolished and condemned to history.

But I won’t hold my breath. I would say at a guess at least 90 per cent of our population knows the Lords is well past its sell-by date but there is no collective will to abolish it.

Don’t let the recent friction between the Commons and the Lords fool you. It’s a smoke screen. They are all in it together.
