THE latest figures for new homes and new business space being built show that the Selby district continues to attract significant new investment as the "fastest-growing area in North Yorkshire."

This is according to Selby District Council and the data is set out in the authority's Annual Monitoring Report.

All councils have to produce one of these. It looks at how well the council is delivering on its long-term plans for housing and new business development.

This year’s report has recently been presented to the district council’s executive.

It covers the last two years, to the end of March 2018, and shows that the number of new homes in the district is exceeding the targets set out in the council’s long-term plans.

A spokesperson for the council said: "This means a greater range of homes for people who want to live and work in the area. Supporting new homes helps the council to support long-term business growth too, which opens up new jobs and opportunities.

"The district is fast becoming a key area for new business investment too as it sits right at the heart of Yorkshire with fantastic transport links across the UK, close to the major economic hubs of Leeds, York and Hull."
