A MOTHER of two has taken to the skies over Selby to raise money for the NSPCC.

Alison Aldridge, who lives in the Peak District, works for Connect Managed Services, a company which supplies technology for Childline, and through her meetings with team managers and volunteers at the organisation, decided to raise money for the charity.

Alison started her fundraising last year by taking part in the Macclesfield Half Marathon and raising £670.

She said: "As part of my day job, I soon realised the value of the work that is done by the volunteers at Childline, I was already very aware through my own 12-years of experience volunteering for Mountain Rescue, of the fact that charitable causes are reliant on a lot of fundraising and donations from people doing something a bit different.

"It was also important with children of my own to do it as a thank you to volunteers. I am really in awe of the fact that these people do so much out of the goodness of their own heart just to make things better for others."

After the half marathon, Alison thought about new challenges, and remembered a friend had undertaken a similar stunt several years earlier.

Alison said: "My friend told me that the experience had been absolutely fantastic and everything she had thought it would be and what I thought it would be. This spurred me on."

Alison self-funded the wing walking challenge - which took place over Selby - so 100 per cent of the money raised through sponsorship could go to the NSPCC.

She said: "I was more excited and nervous than afraid, it was a very smooth take off and once I was up there it was just a kind of feeling of wow, it was real elation. There were a few moments when it was a bit odd because the plane was banking, turning and dipping down, I definitely had stomach lurching moments but overall I really enjoyed it."

So far, Alison has raised £545, but donations can still be made at justgiving.com/fundraising/alison-aldridge-wingwalk
