BRITISH R&B girl group Cleopatra will headline this year’s York Pride festival, alongside Britain’s Got Talent star Danny Beard and The Cheeky Girls.

The festival will be held on June 9 on the Knavesmire.

Charity York Pride has announced the line-up for the event, which includes Cleopatra, who are best known for their 1998 hit ‘Cleopatra’s Theme’.

They will be joined by Danny Beard, who was a semi-finalist on Britain’s Got Talent 2016 and wowed audiences with his performances of Sweet Transvestite from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Holding Out for a Hero by Bonnie Tyler.

Also performing at the event will be The Cheeky Girls, composed of twin sisters Gabriela and Monica Irimia, who rose to fame on Popstars: The Rivals and achieved chart success with their iconic single ‘The Cheeky Song’ in 2002.

Speaking about the line-up, Greg Stephenson, chairman of York Pride, said: “We’re very proud of the impressive and diverse line-up that York Pride has secured for 2018. The calibre of acts are very high.”

Other acts performing at this year’s festival include Divina de Campo - the first drag queen to appear on The Voice, and star of MTV’s A-Z of Drag.

Singer-songwriters Soraya Vivian, Beth McCarthy, Kyle Finn and Lee Lambert will also be entertaining the crowds, as will Almost P!nk, a P!nk tribute act, Samantha Atkinson, a star of X Factor 2016, Two 4 One, York Pride Drag Race 2018 runners-up, and DJ Rory Hoy.

The festival will begin at about 11.45am outside of the Minster, with the parade setting off at around noon. The main event on the Knavesmire, will begin at 1pm.

It is free of charge and is appropriate for all, both adults and children.
