NORTHERN Rail is warning its passengers could face problems after sweeping changes to the national rail timetable.

More than four million trains across the country were rescheduled from yesterday in the biggest rail shake-up for years.

Northern Rail runs the York to Harrogate, York to Selby, York and Scarborough to Hull, and York to Blackpool routes.

It said it had had insufficient time to plan properly for the changes.

It claimed late-running electrification by Network Rail was the cause of the short run-in time and that there could be short time local disruption for passengers as the timetable beds in.

David Brown, Northern Rail managing director, said: “We are doing everything we can to get things back on track as quickly as possible for our customers across the North.”

The electrification involved is on lines west of the Pennines.
