PRIZE-winning artwork by a photography student at York St John University has gone on display as part of an international exhibition on art and disability.
Lydia Corfield won the prestigious ‘Associazione Premio Eleanor Worthington’ Anglo-Italian arts prize. The winning artwork is now on show at the Eleanor Worthington exhibition.
The competition has been established in memory of Eleanor Worthington, a severely disabled young woman who was born and lived in York before moving to Urbino, Italy. Whilst in Italy, she attended the Istituto Statale d’Arte; a school where she spent many happy, creative years, inspiring fellow students and staff and leaving an enduring legacy.
Lydia’s winning entry was her final first year photography project at York St John. Entitled ‘Hidden Disability’, it is made up of two photographs of a ballet dancer, portraying the good and bad days experienced when living with a disability. The exhibition, at the university’s Arts Foyer, is open to the public until Saturday.
