A POTTERY business and an amateur swimming club were among those honoured at this year’s East Riding of Yorkshire Council Chairman’s Awards.

The ceremony, which was held at Bridlington Spa, celebrated the contributions made by individuals and organisations over the last year which has helped to make the East Riding a better place.

The winners included Fangfoss Pottery, in Fangfoss, near Pocklington, which scooped the Chairman’s Business Award for businesses with under 50 employees. This is a small craft ceramics studio dedicated to traditional methods and quality craftsmanship. To celebrate its 40th year in Fangfoss it ran pottery workshops, treasure hunts, competitions and exhibitions.

Amateur swimming club Pocklington Dolphins, based at the Francis Scaife centre in Pocklington, won the Chairman’s Sport Award for Outstanding Club/Team. In 2017, the team was unbeaten in all competitive team competitions. Established in 1965, the club has made a difference to hundreds of members.

Kingfisher Cafe in Bridlington received the Chairman’s Community Award for groups. The Chairman’s Built Heritage Award for single new dwellings and conversions was given for the successful restoration of The Scriptorium, a Grade II listed former convent. Bridlington Lifeboat Station was the winner of the Chairman’s Built Heritage Award for commercial developments and major schemes.
