THE director of a technology company that provides audiovisual support at events in York said he is "absolutely honoured" to be involved in the Community Pride Awards.

Saville Audio Visual has sponsored the prizegiving for more than a decade.

The event celebrates the city's unsung heroes.

The Nether Poppleton-based business is sponsoring the Child of the Year category again this year, which recognises young people aged 12 or under who have overcome adversity or faced up with courage to life’s hardships and challenges.

Andy Dyson, joint managing director at Saville Audio Visual, said: “With a heritage in York that spans nearly 150 years, we are a proud advocate of the city, and in particular the people that make it the wonderful place it is. After supporting the Community Pride Awards for over a decade, it is an absolutely honour to be a part of this fantastic event once again, celebrating the resilience and achievements of people across the city.

“Following on from last year, we’re proud to be supporting the Child of the Year category, which is a truly deserved acknowledgement of the amazing and courageous young people from the region, who have overcome adversity and great challenges in their everyday lives.

"All the finalists and their stories are truly inspirational, and we look forward to celebrating and recognising them on the evening.”

Seven remarkable children were the joint winners of the prize at last year's awards,

Brave Daisybella Bond suffers from Noonan Syndrome, a genetic disorder that causes a wide range of symptoms, such as heart abnormalities and unusual facial characteristics.

She was a winner along with Dylan Harvey, who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes one week before his fifth birthday. Youngsters Tia and Teegan Wrigglesworth, put forward by their terminally ill mum Rachel for their outstanding support and care, and Jessica, Tinky and Charlie Miller, whose mum Amy died aged 35, joined them on the winner’s podium.

The Community Pride Awards are run by The Press in partnership with City of York Council and the primary sponsor is York-based healthcare organisation Benenden.
