A MAN has appeared in court this morning charged with intent to endanger the lives of drivers on the A64.

Jack Lee Hirst, 21, from Leeds, appeared before York and Selby Magistrates' Court, charged with attempted wounding of a police officer, and damaging nine vehicles with intent to endanger lives, or being reckless as to whether lives were in danger.

He was arrested following an incident close to the A19 sliproad on Thursday when North Yorkshire Police were called at about 3.45pm to reports of a shirtless man throwing items at cars on the A64.

Hirst did not enter a plea, and was remanded into custody by magistrates.

He is due to appear before York Crown Court next month.
