TALENTED athletes could be able to tap into financial and specialist sport support following the relaunch of a funding project.

Active York, York's sport and active leisure partnership, has re-started its Fund For The Gifted scheme which aims to help athletes achieve their full potential through financial and specialist sport support.

FFG awards are available to those who perform in a sport with a National Governing Body recognised by Sport England; compete at district level or above and have the potential to achieve higher success; and are able to clearly demonstrate that to reach their performance potential they require additional financial and/or specialist sport support.

FFG is an inclusive support programme with a focus on athletes up to the age of 24, who live and/or study in York, and compete at district level or above for a club within the City of York Council boundaries.

Each application should demonstrate their need for support, including training or gym membership or access to training facilities. This support may be available through Active York partners, and provided in-kind for free.

Expenses eligible for FFG support may include sports equipment, clothing, facility hire and membership fees while competition support could help with travel to events and specialist coaching costs, strength and Conditioning programmes, physiotherapy and medical support, sports injury and rehabilitation, Sports Science support.

Applications should be sent to activeyorksecretary@gmail.com by May 31.
