BEFORE we all start asking questions about how the Home Office seems to be out of control we need to look in our own back yard first.

Once again City of York Council officers have refused to give councillors the full details of an important audit report when asked to (“Secret report row at council rumbles on”, The Press, April 30).

This disobedience over handing the report to elected officials before the meeting as they were instructed to do should be answered with every official involved being fired.

They have no right to defy our elected representatives and should be made a firm example of.

If officials want to run the city as they see fit then they should stand for election.

As we are seeing in the Home Office, the House of Lords and now in our local government, the public’s privilege of voting for how and who we are governed by is under threat, and it’s not the Russians doing it via the internet.

It’s coming from within and it has to stop now.
