THOUSANDS of people have signed up to a new policing alert system.

Humberside Police launched My Community Alert in March, which alerts residents to issues in their area, and shares advice or details about missing people.

Since the launch, 5,000 people have signed up, and the force is urging more residents and businesses to also get involved.

Assistant Chief Constable Scott Young said: "The introduction of My Community Alert is an important step forward for us in working with communities to empower them and enlisting their support to work with us to tackle crime.

"This is an excellent policing tool and it is great to see residents getting on board by signing up so that together we can work to create safer, stronger communities. The more people that we have using the system the more effective it will be."
