A HEALTHCARE hero who "always puts others before herself" has been praised by her clients.

Carer Lisa Dillon was nominated for the 2018 York Community Pride Awards by several residents for her professional and non-judgemental approach to looking after the elderly, people suffering from dementia and others with health problems.

The mum-of-two said she was shocked to be put forward for the Health Service Hero award.

Lisa, 37, said she had initially wanted to work in a nursery but found her vocation working at a care home.

"I started going to work in a council care home and I really liked it," she said.

"My grandma was a brilliant carer herself and we spent a lot of time helping serve tea and coffee at the home when I was younger.

"I find it really hard to think of doing anything else, this is where I need to be. I just never looked back, I've taken to it like a duck to water."

After spending the past 18 years working as a carer, Lisa set up her own business offering home care services. She Helps her clients with shopping, jobs around the house and personal care as well as reminisce sessions for people with early dementia.

She added: "I just want to help people live in their own homes. I realised I could help people stay at home in the early stages and it makes the transition easier for them."

Lisa, who grew up in Acomb and now lives in Nether Poppleton, was described as " kind, professional and non-judgemental" by Julie Neal, who said she had gained confidence thanks to her help.

Another nomination said: "Her work is her passion, she often goes above and beyond to ensure her clients have the best possible care, regardless of the weather or however large or small a job is she is there and never lets any of them down."
