ST LEONARD'S hospice is to receive a huge boost from a local housebuilder.

Barratt Developments East Yorkshire will undertake fundraising initiatives across the region throughout 2018.

St Leonard's hospice is an independent charity that provides specialist palliative care for local people with life limiting illnesses.

It costs in excess of £5 million a year, around £570 every hour of every day, and the organisation relies heavily on donations to help deliver care free of charge.

Last year, Barratt Developments donated more than £28,000 to its chosen charity, Alzheimer's Society, and has already kicked off this year's fundraising with an accumulator challenge - which sees employees given £30 to raise as much money as possible within 30 days.

Finance director Andrew Taylor said: "St Leonard's makes a huge difference to many people across our region and we are proud to support such a worthy cause.

"Our employees are brilliant at taking part in charity activities and we are looking forward to all of the fundraising events planned throughout the year."
