A KEEN York-based runner took on the gruelling West Pennines trail marathon for charity.

Mark Lacey, from Clifton, undertook the muddy challenge for Victim Support, which provides practical and emotional support to victims of all crimes across England and Wales.

Lacey has previously worked as a volunteer for the charity and wanted to continue to support their work.

He said: "I was keen to take on a challenge this year and thought why not raise some money in the process.

"Having volunteered for Victim Support previously, I wanted to continue to support the important work they do. Knowing where the money was going and what it would be used for was also a big motivator.

"The course was really challenging as there had been so much rain - in some parts it was a case of swimming rather than running!"
