The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow in York on Friday night and early on Saturday.
Forecasters say a band of rain and hill snow on Friday will increasingly turn to snow to lower levels through the evening and overnight into Saturday, leaving icy patches on untreated roads.
Further wintry showers may push in from the east on a freshening breeze on Saturday and Sunday, although the amount falling is currently uncertain. Next week looks set to become milder again.
