A CAR is believed to have been deliberately set alight in a village near Selby.

A crew from Selby was called to the scene in Marsh Lane, Barlow, at 1.30am today (March 11).

The car was "completely destroyed" by the blaze, a spokeswoman for North Yorkshire fire service said.

She added that the cause is "believed to be deliberate."

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police confirmed that it is treating the fire as "suspicious" and that inquiries are ongoing.
