FRIENDS teamed up for a challenge to walk the city walls from dawn till dusk to help homeless people across Yorkshire.

Ben Cope, who works for mobile phone shop Three, was joined by colleagues along the way as he trekked laps of York before the gates shut at 5.30pm.

The 31-year-old from Acomb was aiming to complete 24 miles with his best friend, Matt Ions.

The pair set off at 8am yesterday and Ben said it took them about an hour to finish one loop of the walls.

He said: “People have been dropping in and out to keep us company. My favourite bit is probably walking the walls near the Lamb and Lion.

“We are trying to raise money for the homeless. We see a lot of issues with homelessness in Yorkshire so we are supporting Shelter. It’s in the news quite a bit, you see unfortunate people who have to sleep rough.”
