A NEW Channel 5 documentary is to delve behind-the-scenes of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR).

The Yorkshire Steam Railway: All Aboard, a three-part documentary series, is set to air on Fridays, March 2, 9 and 16, at 8pm.

Commissioned by DSP, part of the Endemol Shine Group, the series aims to show how an army of staff and volunteers run the heritage railway as it celebrates its 50th anniversary year.

The NYMR said it granted unprecedented access to DSP, whose co-managing directors Emily Dalton and Donna Clark described the show as “a real celebration of the extraordinary heritage and traditions of the country’s railways”.

The first of the three-part documentary series sees the railway about to open its door for a new season. The episode features the railway’s attempt to pull in the crowds by hiring star steam engine, Royal Scot, to headline for the week.

Last week, NYMR was given permission by Ryedale District Council to build a new carriage stable on land north of Pickering.

The stable is just one of eight different projects which form the railway’s £9.2m Magnificent Journey Appeal.
