Now police are trying to re-unite stolen items recovered by police in the Selby area with their rightful owners, including handbags, power tools, a horse harness, a pocket watch and a cat carrier.

North Yorkshire Police said two Selby men, aged 41 and 31, were arrested earlier this week in a tent in Barlow Grange Woods in connection with recent burglaries in Selby.

"The 41-year-old man was charged with burglary dwelling, theft, receiving stolen goods and nine counts of fraud by false representation,"said a force spokesperson.

"The 31-year old was charged with burglary dwelling, theft from a motor vehicle, two counts of theft, three counts of receiving stolen goods, and nine counts of fraud by false representation.

"A 32-year-old woman, who was found hiding in her fridge at an address in Barlby, was also arrested and charged with theft, receiving stolen goods, aggravated vehicle taking, using a motor vehicle without insurance.

"All three have been remanded in custody to appear at court next month."

The force appealed for people to come forward if they had had something stolen recently or had information that could help with the investigation by phoning 101 and asking for David Pegg or Lucy Hammond.

It said they could also email david.pegg@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk, quoting reference number 12180029682.
