THE AUTHOR of War Horse will be in York this summer as part of a series of events commemorating the end of the First World War.

This year's Ebor lectures will take the theme of "Peace and Reconciliation" to mark the centenary of 1918.

Michael Morpugo, who wrote War Horse, will be performing his book The Mozart Question at a family friendly event on June 5 in York Minster, organised in collaboration with York Festival of Ideas.

The lecture series starts in March and ends in October, and other speakers include journalist Marina Cantacuzino, founder of The Forgiveness Project; and Julie Nicolson a Church of England priest who lost her daughter in the 2005 London terrorist attacks, and then gave up her post to help support other people bereaved in the bombings.

Political theorist and Labour peer Lord Parekh will be speaking about the state’s role in reducing conflict in a multi religious society; while Colin Craig, former director of Northern Irish organisation Corrymeela, will talk about people learning new habits to live well together; and Prof Tariq Modood will talk about inclusive public cultures.

The lectures are all free and open to all. More information is available online at www.yorksj.ac.uk/events-calendar/events/ebor-lecture-series/
