TWO people have been treated with oxygen after inhaling smoke when fire broke out in a bedroom at their North Yorkshire home.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said the occupiers had used buckets of water and a shower to extinguish the fire at a property in Hookstone Road, Harrogate, this afternoon.

"Crews used a thermal imaging camera to check for hot spots and administered first aid and oxygen to the occupants,"said a spokesman.

Firefighters also went to a property in Plompton Way, Harrogate, after a gas leak.

"They made the scene safe, isolated the leak and stood by until the gas board attended and then the incident was handed over to them," said the spokesman.

Meanwhile, another crew used a dry powder extinguisher to put out a fire in a deep fat fryer in Eastborough, Scarborough.
