TWO burglars who raided two houses and crashed a stolen car into the Rufforth Institute on Christmas Eve have been told they are going to prison.

Dominique Ellerby, 28, and Luke Watson-Ellerby, 36, both pleaded guilty to two burglaries and taking a car without the owner’s permission.

Watson-Ellerby also pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified.

York Crown Court heard the pair broke into a home in Rosedale Avenue, in Acomb, and stole a television, iPad and car keys.

Danielle Graham, prosecuting, said the defendants then took keys, an iPad, mobile phone, a Playstation 4 and a Vauxhall Insignia car, from The Terrace, in Rufforth.

Watson-Ellerby, of no fixed address, and his accomplice, of Viking Road, Acomb, drove the car along the B1224 before they crashed it into the side of Rufforth Institute.

Judge Andrew Stubbs QC chose to adjourn the sentencing hearing until Monday, February 12.

Watson-Ellerby is already in custody, but Judge Stubbs also remanded Ellerby in custody, and told her a custodial sentence was “inevitable”.
