EAST Riding Council has stepped in to save a bus service after the commercial operator pulled out.

The council has agreed to fund a replacement 88 bus between Rawcliffe Bridge and Goole to make sure villagers are not left without a connection.

Since transport firm First axed its connection between Thorne and Goole in September 2015, East Yorkshire Motor Services have been running the 88 on a commercial basis but EYMS has announced that due to low passenger numbers, it is stopping service from Saturday, February 3.

The council's announcement means it will fund a service between Rawcliffe Bridge and Goole, via Rawcliffe, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays starting on Monday, February 5. The bus will leave Rawcliffe Bridge on those days at 9.30am, arriving in Goole at 9.50am. The return journey will leave Goole at 12.30pm.
