JUDGES for the National Fish & Chip Awards made a mystery visit to Mister C's in Selby before naming its general manager the UK's top frier.

Peter Calvert faced a rigorous judging process, undergoing exam questionnaires, in-depth interviews, a skills-based assessment during a judging day at the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) Training School in Leeds, as well as the mystery judging visit.

He went on to be crowned the Drywite Young Fish Frier of the Year in the awards, which are organised by Seafish, at a ceremony at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London.

Mister C's also picked up the From Field to Frier Award, for offering the perfect chip. Judging criteria focussed on their responsible sourcing of potatoes, with staff assessed on their potato knowledge, including types and seasonality, storage and preparation of raw ingredients.

Mark Corbally, Mister C’s managing director, said: “Our team works incredibly hard and this can been seen in our success in winning not only one but two awards."
