STAFF at a local library are conjuring up an afternoon of magic to enthuse young readers.

Kirkbymoorside library - which is run entirely by volunteers - is teaming up with the Ryedale Book Festival for an afternoon of magical events on Saturday, January 27.

Events on offer include a visit from A P Winter, the York-based author of The Boy Who Went Magic, storytelling and a fun interactive poetry workshop with Scarborough-based poet Catharine Boddy.

Youngsters are invited to dress as their favourite fairy tale or magical character, while older children can test their knowledge of fantasy fiction with a magical reading quiz.

A library spokesperson said: "We're looking forward to welcoming lots of children and are delighted to have two exciting authors coming to Kirkbymoorside."

The programme starts at 1pm and runs till 4pm. Tickets for all the events and further information are available at www.ryedalebookfestival.com and at the library, or you can pay on the door.
