POLICE are searching for a driver who failed to stop following a chase in North Yorkshire.

The Operational Support Team from North Yorkshire Police saw a red Peugeot 307 "being driven in suspicious circumstances" in Skipton Road, Harrogate, at about 1am on Tuesday, January 16.

A spokeswoman said: "It failed to stop, and was pursued by officers onto the Broadacres Estate. The vehicle was abandoned near Wetherby Road, unattended and secure.

"Officers forced entry to the vehicle and located an air weapon in the boot, which was seized. The vehicle has been recovered by police, and will be forensically examined. The investigation is ongoing to locate the driver."
