A KITCHEN was severely damaged by smoke after an unattended chip pan caught fire last night.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said crews from Harrogate and Knaresborough extinguished the blaze at a house in Regent Street, Harrogate, which caused minor fire damage.

A York crew tackled a small rubbish fire in a field in Tang Hall Lane early today and was later called to a residential property in Garrowby Way after a smoke alarm was activated maliciously.

Firefighters were also called to commercial premises in Clifford Street, York, after a smoke alarm was activated, but this turned out to be a false alarm caused by fumes from vaping in a toilet.

Another false alarm at a commercial property in Bridlington Road, Hunmanby, was caused by insects in the smoke alarm detector head.
