A BY-ELECTION to fill a council position left vacant after a former Lord Mayor quit last week will be held on February 15.

Councillor Sonja Crisp told The Press she was resigning from her Holgate ward role partly because of a neurological condition, Willis-Ekbom disease, which can mean her limbs do not stop moving.

The 63-year-old was Lord Mayor of York in 2015/16 and had served the Labour group for 11 years.

Residents who are not currently registered to vote are encouraged to visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

All applications must be made by Tuesday, January 30.
