A SEX offender has been warned he could be jailed after a jury acquitted him of sexually assaulting a woman.

Unknown to the jury at York Crown Court, Andrew Keith Bulmer, 35, had admitted offences relating to extreme pornography and indecent images of children before his trial began.

Paul Newcombe, prosecuting, said Bulmer had posed as a 14-year-old girl online and had sent pictures of an underage girl to others.

The offences came to light during the police investigation into allegations by the woman that he had sexually assaulted her when she went to his flat in the early hours of November 18, 2016.

Judge Andrew Stubbs QC told Bulmer: “There are things you have said in the police interview and I have read about things you have done in the past which cause the court concern.”

Bulmer has a previous conviction for sexually and physically assaulting a 22-year-old woman, leaving her with bruised legs, arms and shoulders. He was given a 12-month prison sentence suspended for two years.

Judge Stubbs adjourned sentence for the latest offences while probation officers prepare a report on Bulmer and released him on bail. He warned him he could be jailed when he returns to court on February 2.

Bulmer, of Milan House, Eboracum Way, central York denied sexually assaulting the first woman. He told the jury everything sexual that happened between them was consensual.

The jury acquitted him after two hours and 40 minutes in retirement.

Bulmer admitted having indecent photographs of children and extreme pornography and publishing obscene material.

The judge told the prosecution barrister: “He has admitted sending photographs of a girl to other males knowing what they intended to do when they received them and there is no charge reflecting that criminality. I will say no more.”

In 2012 at York Crown Court , Recorder Neil Davey QC told Bulmer about his offences against the second woman: “You wanted to humiliate her and that is why you did it.”
